duties of the aausc vice-president

The following is a list of duties in chronological order. It does not include ad hoc responsibilities.

Beginning of January

Submit a proposal for the AAUSC paper session at ACTFL. The session is pre-approved, but needs to be requested anyway. Mark the form "AAUSC session." Note that this can be done on the web (http://www.actfl.org).

Late December/early January

Send out call for papers over listservs, on the AAUSC Website, and in a regular mailing. (Request reimbursement for postage from the Secretary/Treasurer.) If proposals are mailed in, ask for sufficient copies for all Executive Committee members and a 3x5 card with the affiliation, address, etc. Encourage e-mail submissions to simplify matters. Turnaround time is tight, so give a deadline for proposals of mid February. See last year’s call for further details.

Mid-February

Once the proposals are received, create a list of the titles with space for ranking and comments. Send the list and proposals to Executive Committee members by e-mail. Encourage all to consider publishing a paper in the AAUSC annual volume. Send letters notifying them of acceptance or rejection--see below.

March

ACTFL will send forms to be filled out regarding registration, equipment needed, etc. Call or e-mail the top three presenters to tell them of their acceptance and send these forms, asking that they send materials back to you. Once they do so, forward the entire package to ACTFL. Send abstracts to the volume editor in case he/she wants to do last minute solicitations.

June

ACTFL will send a proof of the program with location, time, etc. of the AAUSC session, which should also be forwarded to the presenters and Executive Board so that they can make their travel plans. Check for errors in the program and make needed corrections. One area that needs careful checking is audio-visual requests.

November

At the AAUSC paper session, introduce the presenters and keep track of time.
